My Sweet Little Jack

First of all, I added two posts today, so read on down the way and see some cute swimming pictures. I couldn't let the day go by however, without writing down how much I love Jack today. Since Marcus has been gone a lot over the past few years, Jack and I have really become best buddies. He is so much fun, and always keeps me smiling. Today I had an especially great day with him for simple reasons. First off, Marcus just started his residency program yesterday, so it was my first of many trips to church without my husband. I felt like I was really doing well however, and got out of the house at 10:00 for 10:30 church (I know, amazing right) untill...a really mean guy flipped me off for driving in the fast lane (even though there was someone ahead of me and I couldn't drive any faster!) Anyhow, that just made me feel so sad all of a sudden because my big tough husband wasn't in the car to... well I don't know what he would do, but I am sure it would have been intimidating to the big truck-driving Texan, right? OK back to my point. Hmmm, oh yes, how much I love Jack, and not feeling sorry for myself in Marcus' absence, OK: Tonight I fixed a great dinner: really yummy tacos on homemade soft taco shells, and I thought to myself, "Why am I even putting forth any effort especially when my husband is long from being home at dinner time, and the only other dining guest in my family comes to the table in a dragon suit!

However, Jack and I sat up to the table, and Eliza in her highchair, and Jack started to say our prayer, He said, and I quote, "Heavenly Father, Thank you for Texas, and Thank you for Uncle Bobby...Amen" Pretty much so cute right? But then sweet Jack started to eat the meal I was questioning myself for putting any ounce of effort into, and chewed slowly and then said, "Mom....(long pause)...you are a really good maker." Who knew that taco would impress my three year old? And who knew he would actually tell me! What a cute little guy. Thanks for showing your appreciation Jack. I know now that a good meal is the way to even a mini-man's heart.

Oh, Becca, this makes me miss you and your cute little kiddos. We're dad-less a lot of nights too (well, at least 'til around 8 or so...) I wish we were closer so we could be single moms together. And I'd appreciate your yummo tacos, I would! I'd even change out of my purple dragon suit for dinner :) and help with the dishes.

Dragons aren't animals.
Glad to hear that Jack is adjusting well. His little dragon suit is TDF. Sorry you got flipped off. Nothing ruins my day like strangers doing rude things. I hate getting honked at. It make me feel battered for several hours. What a wuss, huh?

boy, rebecca....you sure know how to tug at my heartstrings! This one made me cry. Thanks for writing about these good little moments as a mother. And you're a better woman than I am...I can't even tell you how many sub-par dinners I prepared during residency, hoping that the little people at the table wouldn't know the difference!

"You're a really good maker?!" Could that BE any more presh?! And I concur, you ARE a really good maker. Mmmm... Remember those tacos you made when we came to Rochester 2 summers ago and we had the mishies over for din? I still drool about that meal.

Aw Becca, this is so cute. I love his little comment. How precious.

I just posted a little video of Jimmy telling me my taco soup was "DE-YISH-SUSH" last night. It melted my heart to see him all messy faced and saying this- I just had to get it on camera.

Aren't kids the cutest (when they aren't throwing tantrums!)?

Becca! What a sweet little family you have. We KNOW what it's like to be daddyless...and usually for us that translates to mac 'n cheese for dinner. Way to go to be a good mom no matter who's watching. Turns out, the only ones it really matters to is those little ones at the table. Even if they've just come from dragonland. I think I would pee my pants if Avery came to dinner in her chicken suit...what a funny little man...

I am so glad that you have started blogging. It is such a great way to keep up on everyone's lives. Your kiddos are to die for. Jack is so adorable in the dragon suite. Liza Jane looks like the Gerber baby. Where does she get those curls? Its funny because Jack is a mini Marcus and Liza Jane is a little you. Congrats you two on getting through Medical school. I know that you still have to get through residency but it takes a wife and mom to hold the fort down. You are amazing. You and Marcus look fantastic and it is so great to see "ya all" doing so well. Keep posting!--Julia C.

Jack is such a sweetie! He really does say the nicest things, "You can come to my house anytime you want!" Good luck with Marcus being gone. Call anytime you need someone to chat with. Give Jack and Eliza a hug for us. We love you!

I bought Taylor a Big Bird stuffed animal so that he can give mean drivers the bird if he wants. I don't know how much he uses it -- I would have it out quite a bit, shaking it in the window, if it were in my car!

I'm so glad Jack boosted your spirits on a hard day, Becca! Thanks for sharing these stories and these photos!

We love you!
